Natural Health Products and Pharmacist Advice

Vitamins, supplements and complementary medicines, with a pharmacist who will tell you honestly whether something is worth taking alongside your prescriptions. Available in store on Surfers Paradise Boulevarde.

Advice First, Products Second

The supplement aisle is one of the least regulated parts of retail health, and most people buying from it are guessing. Our pharmacists are here to make that decision an informed one rather than a hopeful one.

What we can do is explain what a product contains, whether it is likely to interact with the prescription medicines you already take, and what is worth raising with your GP. What we will not do is tell you a supplement treats a condition, because that is not a claim a pharmacy can responsibly make.

If a product is not appropriate alongside something you are on, we will say so. That is the whole point of buying it from a pharmacy rather than a supermarket shelf.

Supplements and Prescription Medicines

This is the conversation most people skip. Plenty of common supplements interact with prescription medicines, sometimes by making the medicine less effective and sometimes by increasing its effect. The risk is rarely dramatic, but it is real and it is avoidable.

Because we hold your dispensing history, we can check a supplement against everything else you are taking before you buy it, not after. Bring the product in, or bring a photo of the label.

Worth asking us about

Natural Health Questions

No, and be wary of anyone who does. We can explain what a product contains, what the TGA listing means and whether it is likely to interact with your medicines. Whether it is appropriate for a specific condition is a conversation for your doctor.
Some do. Because we hold your dispensing record we can check the specific product against everything else you take. Bring the bottle or a photo of the label to the counter.
Not automatically. Natural does not mean inert, and something with a real effect on the body can also have a real interaction with a medicine. Treat supplements with the same care you would treat a prescription.
Often, yes. Tell us the product name and brand and we will find out whether we can order it and how long it will take.
Yes. Ask a pharmacist. There is no charge and no obligation, and we would rather you left without buying something than bought the wrong thing.
