Quit Smoking Support at Your Local Pharmacy
Most people who stop smoking do it on an attempt that was not their first. Our pharmacists on Surfers Paradise Boulevarde can talk you through the options, check them against your current medicines, and be the person you report back to.
Why Do It Through a Pharmacy
Stopping smoking is one of the few health decisions where the benefit is immediate, measurable and entirely yours. It is also genuinely hard, and going it alone with willpower has the worst success rate of any approach.
A pharmacy is a practical place to start because we are open seven days, you do not need an appointment, and we can see what else you are taking. Some prescription medicines behave differently once you stop smoking, which is the kind of thing that is easy to miss and important to get right.
- No appointment needed, walk in and ask
- We check options against your current medicines
- Open seven days, so you can call in when the urge hits
- A point of contact for the weeks after you stop
How We Can Help
Walk in and ask for a pharmacist. There is no charge for the conversation.
Talk through the options
We will explain what is available over the counter, what needs a prescription from your GP, and what is involved in each. The right choice depends on how much you smoke and what you have already tried.
Check your other medicines
Stopping smoking can change how some prescription medicines behave in your body. Because we hold your dispensing record, we can flag anything your doctor may need to review.
Plan the first two weeks
The hardest part is rarely day one. We will help you think through the triggers, the timing and what to do when it gets difficult, rather than sending you out with a box and good luck.
Loop in your GP
Some options are prescription only. We can tell you what to ask your doctor for, and you can fill the script with us in the same building.
Point you to Quitline
Quitline on 13 7848 offers free telephone counselling across Australia. It works well alongside anything you get from a pharmacy, and it is free.
Be there for round two
Most successful quit attempts follow unsuccessful ones. Coming back after a relapse is not a failure, it is the normal shape of quitting. Come and talk to us again.
What Happens After You Stop
Cravings are strongest in the first days and weeks and then become less frequent. Knowing that in advance makes the difficult stretch easier to sit through, because you are waiting out something that has a known shape rather than an open ended one.
The practical side matters too. Identify the moments you would normally smoke, decide in advance what you will do instead, and tell someone you are quitting. It sounds trivial. It is not.
If you are finding it harder than you expected, that is a reason to come back and talk rather than a reason to give up.
